Nissan recently announced that AEB will be a standard feature on one million 2018 Nissan vehicles. AEB, or Automatic Emergency Braking, is a new system that helps you avoid or reduce damage from head-on collisions using a range of sensor technologies. This system will be offered on the Rogue and Rogue Sport, Altima, Pathfinder, Maxima, LEAF, and some Sentra trims. There will also be some Armada trims that features AEB as well.
Automatic Emergency Braking utilizes radar in order to keep a safe following distance between your car and the car directly in front of you. It will provide audible and visual warnings to prevent collisions, and it can even apply the brakes in situations where a crash is imminent. According to Nissan, “if the driver fails to respond, the AEB system can apply the brakes, helping the driver to avoid the collision or reduce the speed of impact if it is unavoidable.” Put differently, AEB is a last resort in case you lose focus on the road.
Nissan’s goal is to drastically improve safety on most new vehicles, including the ones listed above. AEB will be standard across all trims of the brand’s best-selling models, helping to reduce the severity and frequency of head-on collisions.
