What Your Dashboard Warning Lights Mean

Your Nissan is equipped with numerous dashboard warning lights to help you understand what's going on. However, these small symbols can sometimes be confusing. Here's a guide to some of the most common warning lights and what they mean.

Check Engine Light

This is one of the most common and most dreaded lights. It can be caused by a wide range of problems and is best resolved by having the diagnostic code read by your mechanic or bring it in to our service department!

Oil Pressure Warning

This little picture of an oil can usually turns on when you start the car. However, if it stays on, check the oil level and pressure under the hood.

Brake System

An exclamation mark inside of a circle indicates an issue with your brakes. Make sure your parking brake is off and check your brake fluid.

Traction Control

This light turns on when the traction control or electronic stability control is in use.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

When you see this light, check the pressure in all your tires and refill as necessary.

If this light stays on after starting the car, it indicates a problem with one or more of your airbags. Have your Nissan inspected as soon as possible.

Washer Fluid

This light lets you know when your windshield washer fluid is low. Refill the reservoir.

Cruise Control

When your cruise control is set, this light turns on.

Gas Cap

If you forget to replace your gas cap or it isn't tight enough, this light will turn on.

Door Ajar

This light will turn on if any door, the trunk, or hood is not closed all the way. Open and close all doors until this light turns off.

Coolant Temperature Warning

When your coolant temperature has exceeded normal limits, this light will turn on. Check the coolant level and radiator cap and look for any leaks.
